Kirsten Chambers uses painting as a way to process and make sense of life’s experiences. Her works function as a visual diary—capturing old memories, treasured moments, and everyday observations.
While her practice is grounded in landscape, her paintings are not static depictions of place. Instead, each work presents a deconstructed narrative: a journey through a space over time, layered with memories gathered from different moments and stories connected to that place. Elements within her compositions may appear enlarged or diminished to reflect their emotional or narrative significance. Kirsten works with what she describes as a “narrative hook,” immersing herself in a space until she feels its story has been told as fully as possible from her own perspective.
Her work seeks to evoke the true character of a person, object, scene, or situation. Drawing inspiration from folk art and colonial-era painting, Kirsten is drawn to their earnestness and attention to detail. Beneath the surface of her paintings sits a depth of layered meaning; however, she resists over-explaining her intentions, believing that art’s role is to act as a projection holder for the viewer’s own interpretations.
