Helen Lange is a Toowoomba-based artist whose creative journey began in her school years and has continued to evolve ever since. Working primarily in watercolour and acrylic, and monochrome drawing, she is drawn to the expressive possibilities of fluid, thin pigment and the subtle strength of monochromatic palettes.
Her painting allows her to lean into unpredictability: strokes, bleeds and movement that can’t be fully controlled. In contrast, her black-and-white works strip everything back to line, shadow and tension. Together, these mediums create a visual dialogue between softness and strength, chaos and restraint. Each piece she creates in her home studio is less a statement and more a moment that is open to interpretation.
Helen’s practice is intuitive rather than confined to a single genre or subject. She creates in response to mood allowing each work to unfold organically. Whether through the delicate transparency of watercolour or the bold contrasts of ink and graphite, her art reflects subtlety and simplicity inviting viewers to interpret and connect in their own way.
