Corrie VanR

Creativity has been woven through Corrie’s life from an early age, with making, building and problem-solving forming a natural refuge and source of joy. Whether painting, cooking, arranging florals or working with timber, the act of creating brings her clarity and grounding. Early years spent in floristry fostered a deep connection to nature—its textures, irregularities and quiet strength—an influence that continues to shape both her subject matter and creative approach.

Both Corrie’s visual practice and work with florals are guided by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi: an appreciation for beauty found in imperfection. This reverence for the natural world—never flawless, yet profoundly whole—underpins a body of work that embraces authenticity over polish. Alongside landscapes, the female form features prominently in her work, explored with sensitivity to both strength and vulnerability.

As a mother of daughters, Corrie’s practice is informed by a deeply held feminist perspective and a belief in women’s intuitive depth and resilience. Through her art, she seeks to create moments of connection and recognition—quiet, affirming gestures that invite viewers to feel seen, held and understood. Both women and nature embody a silent, enduring strength, and Corrie’s work is an expression of that shared resilience.
